3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Audience feedback is very important in order that we might know how the target audience who are the demographics who enjoy the stereotypical narratives of a boy meet girl story and ancillary texts; feel in regard to our products.
So first of all we had the feedback of our rough cut of the music video, which we used a HD film cam to record our audience reaction only to use their criticism to help improve our video as much as possible. All said that they liked the representation of the storyline and the editing and sync was done well to make the video flow well, which follows Todorov theory of equilibrium, because we were able to keep a physical balance.
But we had comments made in that the main character did not convey much enthusiasm in the lyrics at certain times. We wanted to demonstrate his love for her through actions more than emotion through the lip syncing, but it seems we should of done more to make it clear.

Evaluation Q1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Music Video
After a lot of research and discussion we we decided to go for the urban/funky music video consisting of the song by Carl Carlton, "She's a Bad Mamma Jamma"
We gathered the idea for the concept by looking at different examples of music videos , for example diggy simmons music video called 'Do it like you', as the rap video was rather similar to the type of music video we wanted to create in order to appeal to the demographics of 18-49 year olds more in particular towards young niche audience, using a range of camera angles.

For our music video I think it's clear to see that we decided to stick to the most obvious codes and conventions of presenting a narrative and cameo. The reason why a cameo is presented is because during certain parts of the video the narrative is actually not part of the story line that the music video presents at particular times. A specific area that this is seen in our music video is when the song starts to sing the chorus and a skateboarding scene is presented for the audience to watch.
But our music video allows us to develop and conform to the conventions of narratives, because the chosen song for the music video is describing the infatuation a man has for a women. Our music video shows that, through the use of Alex and Aimee relationship that develops from just strangers to what we would presume a couple. This links back to the Diggy Simmons video because he was able to convey his charms openly to win over the girl, potrayed more obviously through the use of different camera angles, which we were able to copy.
The background images of graffiti empathizes and expresses the urban atmosphere, this conforms to the forms and conventions of real media as a lot of urban landscapes/environments tend to have graffiti around which makes them recognizable and rural. Our music video does however portray male gaze, in that it shows our main character approaching a young girl and attempting to woo her, conforming to real media in that it's normally the male figure who takes the lead in a development of a romantic relationship. at the same time we subvert to an extent beause our main girl isn't dressed provocatively.
To an extent I don't believe our music video challenges any codes or conventions, we were able to have a mixtures of conventions, therefore for a large part of the video alex is performing the song along with narratives cutting into scenes. It conforms to conventions of a real media product as it has a recognizable urban look to it and a funky atmosphere. However it does subvert to postmodernism seeing that we follow narratives of a story.
Digipack
When deciding for the appearance of our digipack we had to identify the codes and conventions of real media texts. looking at album covers I found that pop and R&B covers were more artist dominant, what I mean by that is the artisit is the prime image or focus on the digipack, in order that the target audience might be able to identify he/she with a brand. Typically though, after a while the artist would start become more post modern in there digipack designs, to make it look more artistic by having abstract pictures with symbolism. Taking that into consideration i made alex face clear on the digipack because he is a new artisit and his target audience does not relatively know who is.
For this reason we had a picture of alex face predominantly and edited in photoshop to give a retro/vintage effect, to match the branding throughout and make this colour scheme recognisable icon for the artist.

We came to the conclusion of creating a skating and rollerblading music video, where a young girl is a 'bad mama jama', this clearly conforms to the lyrics of the song as we are making a young girl a bad mama jama in our music video, which conforms to the codes of the music video.
Therefore our audience can appeal to people of all ages and rather than just a specific group of people.

Front Cover of Our Digipack
The name and title on the digipack was not placed in any particular order on purpose but more focused on highlighting the name of the artist. We put the barcode and label of the artist on the back of the CD because looking at real media texts this seemed to be the most typical convention to follow.
Overall our Digipack conformed well to the conventions of real media texts in order that our target audience would be able to identify and brand our artist.
Website
The codes and coventions in a website is very brand oriented in that, it portrays a creative way of giving you an impression of the band or aritst genre and identity. They have tabs on websites to allow people to browse through further information about the artist, tour dates, pictures and music video.
by using these real media texts we were able to incorporate the same elements into our website. Our website has a bio, picture gallery and contact information for booking enquires. the website matches the retro/vintage colour scheme and has a dominant image the artist.
